Former Nebraska deputy arrested over alleged AI nude images of coworkers and minors
A former Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol on Thursday, October 29, local station WOWT reports. Sheriff Aaron Hanson announced the arrest in a video posted to social media.
According to Hanson, the State Patrol investigated allegations that the former deputy used AI to generate nude images of coworkers and of minors in the department’s Explorer youth program. The investigation followed a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children last December, which flagged possible child sexual abuse material on an iCloud account belonging to him. The man had joined the department in 2023 and had worked as a school resource officer at a local high school since July 2025. He was fired on May 5, and his law enforcement license was revoked last week, the sheriff said. The report did not list specific charges. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The case shows the problem with nudification tools very plainly. The people in these images never agreed to anything, and here some of them are alleged to be children. Nothing about it is erotic technology. It is sexual abuse carried out with software, and it is what gives the term deepfake porn its bad name. Several jurisdictions have recently created specific offenses for this kind of image creation, and police are increasingly treating it as a criminal matter rather than a policy violation.
